By now it has been clearly established that the Philippine economy is heavily dependant on the OFWs who have been remitting money back home for several years now. Any set back to this system would send shock waves across Philippines. While the immigrants are looking for a better future in a foreign land, the future of those left behind remains uncertain.
Not just the men but also the women have been flocking to countries several miles away from their native lands in search of a better life. These people expect to support their families which they leave behind through the money that they hope to earn in countries like the US and Japan. The Social Welfare Department fears that with the economy showing signs of weakening in the years ahead the future of the next generation might be in danger. The problems don’t just end there. With the US issuing pink slips everyday to several employees the Philippine government fears that many Filipinos might have actually been relieved from their jobs and are now employed by part time job providers on a temporary basis.
Voices are calling out for improvement of infrastructure and development of services in the country to generate employment for the masses but nobody knows what might happen if the immigrants are forced to return to the roots.
